City of Vancouver
Conceived as part of a new floating hotel development for Sunborn International, this public pier was designed to create an inviting waterfront destination for the City of Vancouver.
The design brought together public and commercial functions: open access to the water, seating areas, viewpoints and roof gardens, alongside two hotel-operated spaces — a café and a spa with sauna, pools and outdoor relaxation areas.
The concept takes its cue from the ocean: fluid, sculptural forms shape the architecture and landscape, creating a natural dialogue with the vessel and its setting. Curved lines, warm wood surfaces, generous glazing and planted rooftops give the dock a soft and contemporary identity, while stepped routes and terraces open up views across the water.

Shaw’s scope covered the design concept, the architectural dock layout and a series of visualisations for the successful rezoning application. The result is a proposal for a welcoming public space that brings together architecture, landscape and the waterfront in one cohesive whole.
